The Old Pulteney distillery, under the ownership of Inver House Distillers, is located just south of John O’Groat’s, the most northerly point of Scotland. It was founded back in 1826 in the maritime fishing village of Wick. In those days, the raw barley was brought in by boat and the whisky was then shipped out by distillery workers who were also herring fishermen.
The distillery closed as a result of prohibition in 1930 and reopened in 1951. After a number of owners, Allied Domecq sold it in 1995 to its present owners, Inver House Distillers.
The distillery’s unusually shaped pot stills, which have inspired the distinctive Old Pulteney bottle shape, produce over 900,000 litres of single malt scotch whisky each year.
Old Pulteney 18 Year Old is matured in second fill American oak, ex bourbon casks and finished in first-fill Spanish ex Oloroso sherry casks.
It is non chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV.
