The building that houses Deanston Distillery started life in 1785 as a cotton mill which closed in 1964. Brodie Hepburn, a Glasgow blender and distiller acquired the property, founded the distillery there and started production in 1969.
Purchased later by Invergordon, Deanston Distillery ceased production in 1982 for eight years, before being purchased by the current owners Burn Stewart Distillers Limited in 1990. Burn Stewart are part of the Distell Group and also own distilleries in Tobermory and Bunnahabhain, Islay.
Deanston Distillery generates all its own electricity harnessing the waters of the Teith River.
