Walsh Whiskey, which is behind the Irishman and Writers' Tears brands, was founded in Co Carlow in 1999 by husband-and-wife team, Bernard and Rosemary Walsh. The company’s brands are sold in over 50 countries.
In 2019 the firm announced the end of its partnership with Illva Sarrono, the Italian drinks company, which had invested in Walsh Whiskey in 2013, with a new distillery opening in Carlow in 2016. In 2021 Amber Beverage Group acquired the firm, with Mr. Walsh remaining as managing director.
Writers’ Tears Copper Pot is a blend comprising Aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt Irish whiskey. Distilled entirely from barley, both malted and unmalted, Writers’ Tears is triple distilled, non-peated and matured in Flame Charred American Oak bourbon casks. It is bottled at 40% abv.
