The Dunvill whiskey brand was born in 1808 when William Napier and John Dunvill entered the spirit business. By the end of the century, Dunvill had become Dunville and was producing 14 million gallons of whiskey per year. In 1931 its Chairman, Robert Lambart Dunville, died suddenly at the age of 38. The business lost its way and was liquidated in 1936.
In 2007 Shane Branff purchased Echlinville Manor House on the Newtownards Peninsula to start Ireland’s first field-to-glass farm distillery. Part of Echlinville’s goal was to re-establish the Dunville brand through buying sourced whiskey and finishing in their own casks.
