JJ Corry was a tea and spirit merchant based in the port town of Kilrush in Co. Clare in the late 19th century. In 2015, following a career in the drinks industry with Diageo, Pernod Ricard and Moet Hennessey, Louise McGuane set up the Chapel Gate Irish Whiskey Company on her family farm in Kilrush's neighbouring village of Cooraclare.
A dunnage style, bonded warehouse now sits on the farm with distillate and whiskey maturing from several Irish distilleries in several interesting cask types.
The Old Tom was a small batch release to commemorate golf's 2019 Irish Open at Lahinch Golf Club in Co. Clare. It was sold exclusively at the tournament. The golf course designer was Tom Morris. This is a blended whiskey with 50% 17 year old single malt, 30% 13 year old single malt and 20% 9 year old single grain whiskey, all ex-bourbon matured. It was released at 50% abv, non-chill filtered with no added colouring.
